The Alaska experience

Posted on: October 18th, 2014 by simon | Leave a comment

So it has come to this! I’m releasing my new ski movie. It’s from when I skied an extreme downhill race called Arctic man in Alaska. During the race you ski down from one mountain to later get towed after a snowmobile up another mountain and then release yourself and ski down the mountain. During this race I reached speeds up to 135 km/h which is pretty insane. I went far beyond my comfort zone and that’s a good thing because I believe that it’s there you develop the most. We had a bib draw at the beginning of the race and of course I drew bib #1 which meant that I was the first one to start. Not even the first one at the race but even the first european monoskier to start at Arctic man. I was really nervous but overall I had a really great time.

I would like to thank the organizers Andrew Kurka, Tyler Walker and Howard Thompson for making this possible. I would also of course like to thank all the participants Ravi Drugan, Kurt Oatway, Israel Horn, Kevin Bramble & Ira Edwards who were there with me and made my time there even better. Last but not least I would like to thank my driver Brian Jurenka who made one of the fastest pulls at the second year of Arctic man. This has been one of the greatest moments in my life and I got a lot of new friends there. I hope to see you next time!

With that said let me introduce to you “The Alaska experience”

I’ve started using this service called Vimeo where I will upload my daily footage which means I will not upload my feature films there. Talking about feature films I have a new one coming up in about a month. It’s about my alaska experience and how everything went over there, gonna be really fun to see what you guys think about it. I will probably be off to Norway for one last training session before my first competition in Landgraaf. I came home from Switzerland this sunday, I had a really good time over there and the weather was beautiful everyday except one day when it was foggy although the fog cleared out on the afternoon. I got some really good training in both slalom and giant slalom and I’m looking forward to compete now that I have a bucket that fits me like a charm. Here are some of my first videos on Vimeo.

A new beginning

I’ve been in Folgefonna for the last couple of days training slalom and giant slalom with the Norwegian adaptive ski team. It’s been the first camp for the season and I feel really comfortable with my new bucket. For the first time in my life I really feel that I’m the one in control. It still needs som minor adjustments though but that’s not gonna be a problem. We had really good luck with the weather, when you ski on a glacier you’ll never know what type of weather that you are gonna get. Sometimes it can be sunny and sometimes it can be insanely windy and rainy. We had sun everyday which is wonderful as always. I would like to thank the Norwegian adaptive ski team for once more making this wonderful camp possible.

Club training!

My homeclub has now opened up the slopes for training! It doesn’t snow so often in Gothenburg so you have to make the best of the time! You’ll find me in Alebacken every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 pm to 8 pm where I will be training slalom! πŸ˜‰

Happy new year from Γ…re!

I’m back in Gothenburg once again… Sad times but on the other side I had a wonderful time in Are! I got at least two mornings of practice in SL and GS. Looking forward to next time!
